Keep a light attitude and have fun. It will be over soon.
Every garage sale shopper loves a bargain. Expect it.
If it is hot, place a fan or two in the garage. If it is cold, place a heater in the garage. Comfortable shoppers will shop longer...and spend more.
Try hanging your dolls and stuffed animals with clothes pins on a line between 2 ladders.
Turn on the garage lights to help shoppers see better. You may even consider bringing out a lamp or two to help light the corners (put a tag on them stating they are not for sale).
Don't talk on your phone during the sale. Be available to answer "How much is this?" "Does this work?" and other common questions...and to take their money.
Usually a kind "May I help you?" is enough to let them know you are watching and they will move on to easier victims.
Observe young children playing with breakables. Gently ask them to put it down, and then thank them when they do. Most parents are so busy looking at tables, they lose track of the young ones.
Put away anything that aren't for sale out-of-sight. Shoppers will try to buy bikes, tires, yard tools or anything else within 20 feet of your sale.
Tape any matching lids to containers to prevent breakage by shoppers.
Except for your nickle box, don't stuff items into boxes. Shoppers ignore them and fragiles are easily broken when being rummaged through.
Display jewelry by mounting them to a piece of cardboard or corkboard using straight pins.
Hang a metal ladder horizontally from the garage ceiling for hanging clothes from the rungs.
There will be dozens of cars pulling up and they will need all the space you have.
